!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about taking the bus in San Francisco. SF’s Municipal Railway, or Muni, is a miserable ride with the highest-paid union transit employees in the nation. Here is a start-up that offers a better ride. San Francisco is also the epicenter for Über and Lyft, the alternative taxi services.

I feel like I would hate living in San Francisco.

I’ve always wondered why there aren’t double decker buses in the States.

truth be told, in SF I would rather be in the shitty public transit with the people, rather than in the better looking environment with a bunch of pretentious assholes

Yeah, I wish I could afford to be pretentious also.

We as Americans have the freedom to take up as much square footage for a vehicle’s footprint than the rest of the world. That, and average BMI prevents us from putting beached whales on the roofs of buses.

@505, the thing that I love about this story is how start-ups like these are disrupting the ancient, ossified, over-regulated, fascist San Francisco city government. More power to them!

It’s an awful place to live and only slightly better to visit, IMHO. Pound for pound the most smug, hedonistic people on earth. And a — I rick overusing this word — fascist city government.

But doesn’t backwards-cap-beard-floral-pocket-decoration-armband-tattoo-hipster guy in the front row look like such a hoot to chat with?

Thank god, that means I don’t have to hear him tell me about the artisanal durian butter he rubs in his beard each morning.

“...its plan to hack over...” I stopped reading there. The term “hack” is so overused, and wrongly used these days it is obnoxious. What about this is a hack? It is innovative, sure, an improvement? sure. Not a hack.

This, basically. Why do a double decker, when you can just do two separate buses? The bus companies are protecting the consumer, damnit!

I like the term “disrupt.” More apt, I think.

That bus just oozes “pretentious douche”. I wonder if Leap will open routs in the bad neighborhoods of the city.

It’s funny, we’ve opened an office out in San Fran and they have to hire people out there because nobody from the NY office want’s to move there (including me). You literally can’t pay me to live there.

If you have a stroller, the 2nd bus run by the city is MUCH better.

And I say this as a father who often used public transit with his kids when they were small.

Also having more poles to hang onto also makes the regular public transit bus better.

The layout of the Leap Transit bus is stupid and inefficient... though it’s “different”, so I can see it appealing to hipsters.

Now having said this, I don’t see any issue with having two different bus service providers that are focused on two different types of customer. I see absolutely no problem with having a two tier transit system where you have a public system for the masses and a private system for a specific clientele.

It also comes down to cost. If it costs more to take the Leap bus, I wouldn’t normally use it unless I happened to be in a hurry and it was the first bus that came by. But if someone else likes it and is willing to pay, why not?

Ya’ couldn’t pay me, either. Can’t imagine living there. May I gently take issue with your use of the term douche ? Can’t you keep gender out of it and just say, jerk or idiot ? Just asking.

It’s gender specific? I’ve always used it for when “asshole” isn’t strong enough, I’ll take note of that though.

Fair enough; thank you for clarifying that. I think that we’re kidding ourselves if we pretend that we don’t notice or think about that, but I can really only speak for myself.
